The chapter on testing research code in the Turing Way’s Handbook on Open and Reproducible Research elaborates on the motivation for writing tests within research (with some very convincing examples), on many of the topics mentioned above and also adds advice on a few very common research-related topics like how to deal with testing random or stochastic code.
